What is this looking out of my box?
While out backpacking . . . . I wanted to continue my post with this woodpecker who I found inspecting my Screech Owl box on Friday!! Of course every year the only thing that uses the box is European Starling (which I always need to evict)!! Maybe this will be the year for the Flicker??
Well hello Mr. Woodpecker!
This male Common Flicker had inspected every corner of this box and I would love if the box passed the Flicker inspection!! Just maybe I will have some baby Flicker babies in my yard here soon?

OMG…this would be fantastic. Flicker is my favorite woodpecker. I will be anxious to see if you get a family of them in your box. You lucky man. Keep us posted.
P.S. We had a Lark Sparrow in our garden today. You talk about fantastic. I was so excited. They nest in our county in a few places but I would never have thought that one would drop by on their way to their nesting grounds.

I don’t know why they call it common–I do not see common flickers at our place but I know they are supposed to be around. That’s great that you have one inspecting your owl box.

How nice would that be to have a nest box full of Flickers. Good Luck! Do you have the directions to make the nest box?

Oh…I hope your Flicker decides to stay! They are such a gorgeous bird that we don’t often see up close. I bet the babies would be neat to watch!

Flickers are such beautiful birds. I recently have been spotting a lot of them. I was used to the ones I saw out west and am amazed at the pretty yellow color under the wings of the ones out here. I hope you get baby flickers. It would be so cute to see.

Is that birdhouse attached to a utility pole? Our power company here discourages that even though I have a couple in my yard that I would love to attach kestrel boxes to.
